Strong Flour - Uses, Nutritrional Information and Recipes

Strong flour, also known as bread making flour, is produced from hard wheat varieties, which have a higher protein content than plain and self-raising flour. Strong flours can be white, wholemeal or malted. The high protein (gluten) content of strong flour ensures dough rises well and that it keeps its shape once baked. As well as bread and roll making, strong flour is ideal for all types of yeast cookery; pizza bases, pita breads, challos and puff pastry.

Marriage’s produce six strong flours, which are suitable for bread machines and baking by hand:

A superior strong white flour blended from all Canadian wheat (world renowned for its quality). This flour has an extremely high protein content, and is recommended for the best breadmaking results, as well as for pasta and pizza making

Strong Stoneground Wholemeal flour

A special flour ground in the traditional, slower way between Marriage’s French Burr stones, rather than the modern steel roller mill process. Nothing is added or removed, giving a delicious nutty flavour. Ideal for tasty, nutritious rolls and bread, especially with the addition of fruit or nuts and seeds

Organic Country Fayre Malted Brown flour

A malted flour produced by adding small kibbled grains to brown flour, for a delicate malted nutty flavour. High in fibre, this has the goodness of added bran and malted wheat grains.
